|Russia is scheduled to pay the International Monetary Fund upwards of $1.4 billion in debt payment and servicing in 2005, the IMF reports on its website. |
Russia's first payment this year is roughly $64.7 million and falls due January 12. The country paid the IMF more than $1.7 billion in 2004.
The Russian Finance Ministry says the country's IMF debt dropped from $5.1 billion on January 1 last year to $3.5 billion on the same date this year.
Russia is leaving open the possibility of paying off its IMF debt ahead of schedule, something the Fund is also interested in seeing. Otherwise, the country should have the debt paid off in 2008.
