|BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) — Inflation in the countries that use the euro currency dropped further in December to 1.6 percent, according to official estimates.|
The European Union's Eurostat statistical office said annual inflation dropped from 2.1 percent in November and 3.2 percent in October as oil prices continued to tumble. The European Central Bank seeks to keep inflation just below 2 percent.
On Jan. 1, Slovakia became the 16th country to join the euro currency zone, but was not yet included in the December estimate.
