728 day Cetes is the rate that characterizes the yield of zero-coupon bills denominated in pesos issued by the Bank of Mexico with a maturity of 728 days. Cetes (Treasury bills) have been placed at a discount through weekly auctions since 1978 and are an important tool used by the government in monetary policy. With Cetes, the government regulates the money supply through open market operations, finances budget deficits, and develops the debt market. Auctions for the placement of Cetes are not held daily, so the frequency of updating the index may vary.
